Nunniong Plateau

Further west, lush green grasslands are scattered throughout the Nunniong Plateau. This rich, subalpine area contains magical snow gum woodlands. Wander through these and you will encounter rare sphagnum bogs—home to frogs—and heathlands with scurrying skinks. Cool temperate rainforests and stands of alpine ash reach for the sky. Nunniong is recognised and renowned for its high aesthetic value.

The alpine sphagnum bogs—made up of hundreds of moss species—of Nunniong are listed as an endangered plant community under national environmental law. Their conservation is essential for protecting vital inland water resources. Protecting the Nunniong Plateau is an important investment in our water security, especially in a changing climate.
